AFGHANISTAN: THE UNFOLDING CRISIS

Afghanistan has been one of the focal points of U.S. foreign policy in the post-9/11 era. The transformation of Afghanistan before 9/11 shaped the U.S. approach to counterterrorism.

From October 2001 to August 2021, the U.S. operated in a continuous and evolving theater of warfare. Unlike traditional campaigns, Afghanistan like Iraq involved counterinsurgency and geopolitical influences.

With U.S. forces completely out of Afghanistan, the question is the future. Under Taliban control once again, would Afghanistan shift back to pre-9/11 status? The growing international influence of the People's Republic of China raises concern of a potential impact on Afghanistan.
